In July last year, Andhra Pradesh received actual industrial investment worth Rs 3,013 crore in eight units. Official sources told Bizz Buzz that this is likely to generate 3,486 jobs. Andhra Pradesh was the third-largest state in terms of the quantum of investments in July.
Investments in Andhra Pradesh covered a wide gamut of the industrial spectrum—pharmaceuticals, metallurgical, paddy milling, vegetable oil refining, non-alcoholic beverages, and plastic granules.
Nationwide, 91 units received actual investment worth Rs 19,705 crore in July, with a potential to generate 40,717 employment opportunities. This reflected a rise in both month-on-month and year-on-year terms. In June, 88 factories received Rs 13,395 crore in investments, with 35,128 expected jobs. In July 2023, the numbers were 83, Rs 9,858 crore, and 28,130, respectively.
These were Part B filings of industrial entrepreneur memorandums (IEMs), denoting actual investment.
Gujarat got the largest investments, Rs 5,646 crore, in 16 units with expected job creations of 15,900. The second largest was Uttar Pradesh with the respective figures of Rs 3,129 crore, 11, and 4,942.
In terms of sectors, the transportation industry got Rs 4,224 crore in 11 units with a potential of 10,438 employment generation opportunities. The second was the sugar industry with respective figures of Rs 2,708 crore, seven, and 3,717. The next were cement & gypsum products with Rs 2,465 crore, four, and 2,137, respectively.
There were also 67 Part A filings of IEMs, indicating intention to invest Rs 41,413 crore with intended employment of 24,169 persons. In comparison, there were 82 Part A IEMs signed with a total investment of Rs 39,835 in June 2024 and 136 Part A IEMs with Rs 52,833 in July 2023.
The lion’s share of Part A IEMs went to Odisha, Rs 26,409 in four units, followed by 10 units in Gujarat with Rs 9,192 crore and 16 units in Maharashtra with Rs 1,929 crore.
